How To Make Your Jar Candles Last

4:00 AM

One of my all-time favorite things in my home are jar candles. They're a great way to liven up your home and make it smell amazing. I often burn one and feel more relaxed. I don't know what it is about them that relax me so much, but I try to make them last as long as possible.

There are a few ways you can make your candles last longer. I mean, let's face it, candles aren't exactly the cheapest to buy. This is especially true for Yankee Candles and those heavenly scented Bath and Body Works candles. Ah-mazing, right?

Prevent Soot

Start by always making sure that the wick is trimmed to about and 1/8 of an inch.  I pretty much make sure the wick is short to the wax, but not completely stumped. You just want enough to keep the flame. Doing this will help make the wax burn slower and at a more even pace. This also prevents the black soot buildup on the glass.

Melt Wax Evenly

Make sure you're also burning your candles long enough. Doing so will help prevent tunneling. This is when there is a ring around the wick. If you don't burn it long enough and it creates tunneling in your wax, the next time you burn it, it may stay there causing the wax to burn straight down and not melt outwards.

Blow It Out Right

Remember to blow the candle out gently. This will help prevent wax from being splattered. One of the things I remember Martha Stewart saying as a kid was to put your finger in front of your mouth about 2 inches away before you blew. This would prevent splattering and put out the flame without a problem. My mother would always do it and it worked like a charm.

They're such simple tips, but using these with every candle I own makes them last a crazy amount of time!
