6 Quick Tips to Declutter Your Calendar

6:55 AM

Have you ever found yourself with so much to do all the time and you just never feel like you're getting anything done? For those who are parents, it can be hard to juggle school activities as well as sports and other activities outside of school. If you're in a rut and need some quick tips, I have a few for you!

To organize your family's to-do's and lives in general, there are a few things that you can implement to keep everyone on the same page. This will help you out because it may relieve some of the tasks off of you, too!

Share an Email Address

For you and your significant other as well as older children, sharing an email address is a great idea. Everyone will be able to receive the same information whether it's school related or otherwise so that the information doesn't have to go to one person to organize.

Get The Family Together

Even if it's only for a few minutes, getting everyone together to talk about the upcoming week's tasks will help out immensely. Sharing family tasks is a great way to get everyone involved and to look at the week ahead  as a whole. This is where the phrase "Having two heads is better than one" works out amazing.

Getting everyone together to talk about things is also a great way to acknowledge free time so that if anyone would like to plan anything, everyone is there to talk about it. Maybe a date night or a movie night. Maybe the kids want to go to the park or you may need want to "me time". (I mean don't we all want some "me time"?)

Plan To Do Nothing

Don't be afraid to put absolutely nothing on a specific day. Just because you may be available at a certain time of the day or have an entire afternoon unplanned, doesn't mean that it has to be filled with anything at all. Sometimes, taking a little breather will help you destress and gather your thoughts and actions for the next day.

It's good for the kids, too! Kids need downtime as well. Trying to actually plan nothing at all will help them (and you) loosen up and relax.

Kid's Activities

We all want to say yes to absolutely everything your kids plan on wanting to do. My daughter, for one, loves gymnastics and goes every weekend to a 2 hour class. While I feel like she could do more (and believe me, she wants to) I just don't think that the stress of running around after working all day is something that will help keep my sanity.

Schedule Time for Home Tasks

This may go especially for working parents, but will also work for stay-at-home parents as well. Running to the store for last minute items or at work with a few minutes of spare time? Call and schedule appointments. Most of the time, it doesn't take that long and will save time when you get home.

Take Things Off Your To-Do List

While it may be satisfying to check off things on your list, having one that's a mile and a half long will take up so much time. I would rather have a daily list of 5-6 things to accomplish than a laundry list that I will never get done.

It's a great idea to utilize a planner or notebook to write down a master task list for the month or week. Write down everything that you know of at the time that you want or need to get done. It's something that is easy to add to, but you don't have to look at it every single day unless necessary.

Use this list of tasks to add to a daily or weekly to-do list. By taking a few things here and there to get done, you'll feel more accomplished and won't feel so overwhelmed.

I do this when I need to organize my thoughts and tasks for blogging and for home. It definitely makes a difference.

By taking simple steps like these to eliminate stress and organize your plans, you can tackle your calendar and finally breathe!
