It can be hard to figure out how to take care of certain clothing items. There are a few things that you can do to keep your clothes looking newer longer! Use these tips the next time you want to wash your favorite clothing item or have a stain you need to get out. Don't forget to grab the handy laundry symbol printable, too!

Tips and Tricks

Bathing Suits

Hand-wash your swim suits with mild detergent to keep the spandex stretchy. If you have to wash them in the washing machine, use a mesh bag so they don't become tangled or twisted. The same goes for your bras! Whether or not you use the washing machine, avoid the dryer and lay your suits flat to air dry.

Vibrant Tees

Wash your tees in cold water with a bleach-alternative detergent to remove dingy residue. To prevent fading, hang dry them instead of the washing machine.

Whites & Jeans

Treat any stains fast! To keep white their whitest, wash after every wear in warm water with a deep-cleaning detergent. Whiteners like OxiClean is a perfect additive.

Black & White Stripes

The key to figuring out whether or not these pieces are suppose to be washed with the lights or darks is to find out if the color bleeds. Test the dark stripes with water. If it doesn't, it's okay to wash with your light load! Avoid washing with dark colors because it may turn the white stripes grey.

Workout Clothes

Your workout gear might stink even after you wash them so for a deep clean, wash them right after you wear them. You can even go as far as to add an odor eliminator to your load just to make sure!

Get Those Stains Out

Let the stain dry and brush off loose grass or dirt from the fabric. Use an enzyme detergent or prewash. Wait a few minutes and wash in the warmest water that's safe for the material. Use fabric-safe bleach if necessary.

Ice Cream

Soak the stain for 30 minutes in an enzyme detergent/cool water solution. Use 4 cups of cool water per 1 Tbsp of detergent. Apply a pretreater and wash in the warmest temperature for the material. Have a chocolate stain? Add a fabric safe bleach.

Flush with cool water. Soak if necessary to keep the stain from setting. Use a red-wine-stain remover like Wine Away and then wash in warm water with detergent.

Iced Coffee

Sponge with cool water and rub in liquid laundry detergent. Wash as usual.

Sweat Stains

The aluminum in deodorants combine with your sweat to leave those ugly yellow arm pit stains. Rinse your shirts with cold water and then apply white vinegar. Wash in hot water with an enzyme detergent.
