DIY Christmas Stocking Holder

4:00 AM

If you're like me and you don't have a mantel, then you realize the struggle to find a visually appealing place for your Christmas stockings. Every year I try to come up with something that will work for us...then came this idea!

I had this old floating shelf and was going to get rid of it when I cleaned out my hallway closet until that little light bulb went off in my head and thought to use it as a stocking holder.

It's hollow particle board...nothing fancy. I wish it was made out of real wood, but the creamy white color seemed to work just fine for me and so I took to the computer to find exactly what I wanted to do. I picked the saying and the font and used a simple font transfer method to add the lettering.

The font I used is called Magnolia Sky and is free for personal use. I love how it is bold and feminine. I thought it was perfect for this project. I tested the right size and proceeded to transfer it.

I did this by simply:

  1. Printing the font flipped facing the other way.
  2. Scribbled over the letters with a pencil.
  3. Turned the paper over and traced it to leave a faint pencil mark in the shape of the lettering.
  4. Traced and filled it in with a fine-tip Sharpie marker.

The hooks are simple, inexpensive plastic hooks that I painted silver. They weren't exactly what I had in mind, but screwing in prettier hooks was out of the question considering this is hollow.

I spent a whole $2 on the hooks and had everything else available so I couldn't have asked for a cheaper project and I think it came out great!

How do you hang your stockings? Leave links if you have posts! I'd love to check them out!

  1. This little hanger is really adorable. So nice for a family without a mantle and you could hang it low enough for little people to do it independently.

    Very cute. Leanna
