Kid's Closet Organization

12:00 AM

Every so often, I like to go into my daughter's room and reorganize...she's not exactly the neatest. I do have to say that I am proud of her because each time, we end up throwing away at least two garbage bags full of things she no longer needs, wears or wants.

This time, I really cleaned it out and there are different areas listed below. There were no need for labels on the bins simply because we already knew what went where. Because her room is rather small and has to be utilized as a dual sleep/play area, it was a challenge to find room for absolutely everything.

Anyone have any great ideas for storing stuffed animals? These were stored in a linen bag behind her dresser (placed kiddy corner) and now they live up here. It's hopefully a temporary place because I could use this space for so much more! (Like AG doll stuff that seems to be taking over!)

Her closet is organized with an old bookshelf and cabinet. I simply removed the doors from the cabinet, placed it on top of the bookshelf and adjusted the shelves. I found bins that fit perfectly. The larger are for her clothes and the smaller ones for her shoes.

She's a real girly girl so I needed a larger basket for her purses. I reused this one from a past Easter.

I still have yet to figure out exactly what to do with her scarves because they are bulky and so that is why they are on a clothes hanger. Not that it looks absolutely terrible, but does anyone have any good suggestions?

I've been using this method for hanging her clothes for the past three years. There is minimal space after placing the cabinet on the bookshelf and because I don't like to fold her dresses, I needed a way to hang more in less space. So, what did I do? Bag ties! Simply create a circle by tightly connecting the ends and hang like so. You could go all the way to the floor but I try to do no more that four.

This is an up close look at the bottom area. The only thing not pictured to the right are her Legos. I store those in an empty popcorn tin because it's large and sturdy for carrying around the house. What do you use to store Legos? Don't mind the chalkboard. When we got rid of her easel, she insisted she kept it. so she drags this out when she plays school.

Like I said, this was a cabinet before so, of course, there is an odd space after adjusting the shelves...then I realized her sneakers and cleats fit perfectly and wallah! No wasted space!

Please, don't mind the dirty, grungy backpack. I hand wash it throughout the year. Well, I've been slacking. ;) I used to hang it from a Command Hook at a height she could reach, but as the grades get higher, so does the heftiness of her bag so now it sits on a hook with her gymnastics and soccer bags.

This is one of my favorite parts because these hooks keep her hats off the floor and her umbrella in reach for when we have to make a mad dash out the door in the rain.

Thanks for stopping by today and I hope that I have inspired you to drag out the closet and organize it to it's fullest!

Stay in the loop!

  1. I think your daughter has a similar size closest to my daughter's.

I did give her room a makeover in September but have still not got around to sorting out her wardrobe. They accumulate so much stuff and it spills out downstairs into the family living areas.

I like that you have really thought about it and used every inch of available space.

    Definitely a job well done!

  10. Use a corner net for the stuffed animals. They go up at the ceiling, and it keeps the animals in view.
