Homemade Macaroni + Cheese

This is one of our favorite recipes. We found this while searching for new dinner ideas. You can find this recipe in many places like Food.com and MyRecipes.com, but I wanted to share it with you today on my blog. It's called Fannie Farmer's Mac & Cheese. If you haven't tried it yet, it is to die for!

First start off with gathering your ingredients. The picture below shows some of them.You'll need 4 tablespoons of flour, 4 tablespoons of butter, 2 cups of cheddar cheese, 1 cup of milk, 1 cup of heavy cream, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, pepper to taste, elbow macaroni (roughly 8 ounces) and 1/2 cup of bread crumbs.

Start by preheating your oven to 400 degrees and boil macaroni according to package directions. Grease baking dish with butter or nonstick cooking spray.

Melt butter in sauce pan. Mix flour with pepper and salt.  Add flour mixture to butter and blend thoroughly. Gradually add milk and cream.

Whisk ingredients until boiling which will take roughly 2 minutes. Stir constantly. Simmer for 10 minutes, stirring constantly. It will begin to thicken.

Add cheddar cheese a little at a time. Once completely added, stir constantly for 5 minutes.

Once cheddar cheese is melted, add elbow macaroni to the cheese sauce and mix well.

Place macaroni and cheese in a baking dish and spread evenly. Coat top with bread crumbs.

Bake for 20 minutes uncovered. Remove and serve.
