DIY Headband and Accessory Holder

6:02 PM

Do you or a girl you know have so many hair accessories and no where to put them? This was my dilemma. Then, I came across a tutorial to up-cycle a canister when scrolling through Pinterest and I thought it was perfect for all of my daughter's hair accessories. At the time, I was storing them in a bin and it was always such a mess or I'd find them laying around the house.

This is the finished product I made with and without the headbands so you can see the paper I used. The tutorial I found used scrapbook paper, but I had plain pink wrapping paper and thought this would work the same. I just took a large empty container I had from iced tea mix instead of the quick oats container she used and wrapped it up. I used a glue stick. Yes, a glue stick. Nothing fancy here! LOL. It's held up pretty well. I haven't had to fix it once.

This is a view of the inside and, since the container is so big, I was able to not only store her hair bows, but all of her elastics and hair clips too!

What you need:
  • Large container- quick oats, iced tea mix, etc.
  • Paper of your choice- wrapping paper, scrapbook paper
  • Glue- glue stick, glue gun, craft glue
The tutorial I used had a candlestick holder for a base. I opted to not use this because I wasn't displaying it, I was going to keep it in the closet. Some have even used fabric, but I think paper works just fine. This project only cost me the price of the iced tea since I already had the wrapping paper and glue stick. Total cost? $7! This craft is super easy and took me about 10 minutes. That's only because I had to measure the wrapping paper to the canister and waited for the glue to dry a bit before I put the headband on.
